It was a glorious evening with a decadent ambiance of brocade, lace, velvet and intricate beadwork of costumes from different types of films at The McNay Member Preview of CUT! Costume and the Cinema held on the 1st October 2013.
The costumes on display come from films such as Sherlock Holmes; Academy Award-winnerThe Duchess, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sense and Sensibility, and The Phantom of the Opera.
*Alexandra Byrne’s Academy Award and BAFTA nominated costumes for Radha Mitchell as Mary Ansell Barrie in Marc Forster’s Finding Neverland (2004), Lara Flynn Boyle’s red gown from Land of the Blind, which was designed by **Phoebe De Gaye and ***John Bright’s costume design for Natasha Richardson as Countess Sophia Belinskaya in James Ivory’s The White Countess starring Ralph Fiennes as Todd Jackson were my favourites.
The exhibition now open until 19th January 2014 features costumes from five centuries of history, drama and comedy worn by the likes of Sandra Bullock, Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp, Ralph Fiennes, Angelica Huston, Keira Knightley, Uma Thurman, Kate Winslet, and others.
The exhibition tour is organized by Exhibition Development Group, USA in cooperation with Cosprop Ltd., London, England.
